MIKE Barton came off the bench to save a penalty as Guilsfield celebrated their first win of the season.
Barton was called into action to save Gerallt Jones' 43rd minute penalty after goalkeeper Dave Littleford had been red carded after upending Corey Sinnott.
Guilsfield had led on four minutes when ex-Meifod midfielder Wayne Austin sensationally vol
leyed home.
The Guils were looking the more dangerous side and a good driven cross from Austin on 12 minutes found Tom Reynolds unmarked but his header went wide.
Glan came to life six minutes later as Sinnott took advantage of a blocked clearance to test keeper Littleford and had an even better chance a minute later as a long ball from Gareth Owen put him clear but his well struck shot went narrowly wide.
Guilsfield doubled their lead on 29 minutes when Glantraeth goalkeeper Gareth Roberts fumbled Austin's free-kick into the path of Emyr Roberts who made no mistake from close range.
Glantraeth should have reduced the arrears on 43 minutes but Barton's heroics kept his side two goals to the good.
Both sides had chances after the break with Sinnott and Gareth Wyn Roberts testing Barton, while Tom Reynolds headed wide at the other end.
Paul Rowlands was next to test Barton, while a swift counter-attack at the other end saw summer signing Carl Lewis force home goalkeeper Roberts to push his shot onto the bar.
Glantraeth laid siege to the Guilsfield goal in the final stages with defender Gareth Owen pushed forward in a desperate bid to break the resistance.
Owen fired over and Sinnott fired wide before a looping header from Owen allowed Kevin Roberts to race in from close range to reduce the arrears with just three minutes remaining of the match.
Owen came close to snatching an injury-time equaliser only to see his header gratefully gathered by Barton.
