ALBERBURY'S young guns were the toasted after a superb display helped earn a four-wicket win over Wroxeter.
Alberbury made the trip shorn of six regulars but the youngsters who stepped up made an immediate impact.

“This result is a vindication of the hard work the club has put into developing a thriving junior section,” said clubman Ian Crawshaw.

All the youngsters who stepped up played their part in a surprise but welcome victory which puts us in fourth spot.”

A sticky wicket made runs hard to come by and Wroxeter were soon rocking as Alberbury started with a vengeance.

The opening pair failed to lay foundations as Nick Bevan was superbly caught for 14 by Charlie Bourne off Ollie Corbett.

Dave Brearly was also sent back to the pavilion on 13 after being caught by James Wynne off Gary McKay.

While Australian allrounder Callum Cook stemmed the tide of collapsed wickets the visiting attack reaped the rewards at the other end.

Preston Fletcher (4-19) and Robert Owen (1-13) tore through the order with skipper Nick Fern caught for 10 by Bourne.

When Cook was caught behind by Mark Jones off Ben Davies (2-9) for 27 it left Wroxeter to defend 110.

Alberbury started brightly with a promising opening partnership from Bourne (17) and Mike Crawhsaw (34).

Cook (4-46) tormented the middle order but Crawshaw and latterly James Wynne (13) steered the order to the verge of victory.

It was left to Fletcher (16no) and Owen (5no) to form an unbroken seventh-wicket partnership to complete victory in the 39th over.
