ALBERBURY suffered a day to forget at Alscott who remain runaway leaders of the first division.
The visiting villagers opened the batting with a promising opening partnership formed by Mike Crawshaw (11) and Neil Savage (22).
The openers’ departure brought Mark Jones to the crease and the county star soon started displaying his array of shot
s.
However with Jones taking on the Alscott bowling attack in flamboyant fashion he was let down by the middle order as Alberbury suffered the loss of cheap wickets.
Rob Owen (5), Charles Bourne (8), Angus Little (2) and James Wynne (7) departed with Ian Pollard (4-37) the pick of the home side’s bowlers.
Jones was eventually caught behind for 61 by Jason Allen off Pollard to leave Alberbury wobbling.
It was left to Alberbury debutant Grant McKay to fire an unbeaten 35 and form an unbroken 10th wicket partnership with Ollie Corbett as the visitors closed on 183-9.
Progress was slow in reply with Alscott openers Tim Clare and Carl Starling adding 92 for the first wicket.
The dangerous Starling was eventually caught for 82 by Ben Davies off Savage, who also bowled Clare for 15.
However with victory already in sight the Alscott batting line-up cautiously made their way to the finish line.
An unbroken third wicket partnership between Ben Waters (31no) and Martin Jones (37no) saw Alscott to a comfortable eight wicket win in the 28th over.
