THE much awaited final of last season’s MP Foulkes Montgomeryshire Cup will take place at Latham Park on Sunday, January 2.
The competition had reached the semi-final stage, when the decision was made to hold over the remaining games until the current season.
Semi-finalists Llanidloes Town withdrew at the start of the season, to set-up a final between Berriew and Montgomery Town.
However previous scheduled dates were not suitable for the clubs, who will now go head-to-head at Newtown Football Club’s Latham Park on Sunday, with a 2pm kick-off.
The gate is likely to be swelled by neutrals eager for entertainment after over a month of snow enforced postponements.
Competition secretary Bernie Jones said: “It is good to finally get the game played.
“This is a great cup and a traditional competition which players and clubs enjoy, so everyone was doubly keen to get the final played.”
Jones paid tribute to administrators from both clubs for their hard work and compromise in getting the game scheduled.
“Officials from both Berriew and Montgomery Town have worked hard together to get this game back on the fixture list and they deserve a lot of credit for all this work.
“It shows that there are still a lot of good people involved in Mid Wales football, who want to see the game played.”
The first round draw for the 2011 cup has already been made with matches to commence later in the New Year.
Newtown are the defending champions after defeating Montgomery Town in May, 2009.
