LLANIDLOES were crowned Montgomeryshire Cup winners at Montgomery Cricket Club’s Lymore ground on Sunday.
For the first time organisers adopted a round robin format, with Llanidloes joined by hosts Montgomery and local rivals Newtown in competing for the county title.
The tournament was played in glorious conditions, with eventual champions Llanidloes completing a 45 run victory over Montgomery in the opening match.
With Montgomery bouncing back to beat Newtown by nine wickets the stage was set for Llanidloes to win the match in the final 20/20 game of the afternoon, against old rivals Newtown.
Llanidloes saved their best display of the day until the end, with Adrian Foulkes (45), Marc Hughes (30) and Tom Goodman (28) starring in a 40 run victory, as Rob Jones’ men took the shield.
