MONTGOMERYSHIRE brought the curtain down on a disappointing season with a seven-wicket defeat  to Flintshire.

A disappointing batting display from the home side yielded just 131 with only Steve Davies, Tom Goodman and John Anthony making any significant impression.

Montgomeryshire lost the toss and soon lost opener Mike Crawshaw for a duck, trapped LBW by Richard Williams.

Joe Birch entered the fray alongside Davies and kept the scoreboard ticking over with a valuable defensive innings before being caught by Mitchell Van Wyk off Darren Leech.

Davies departed soon after for a well crafted 45 which included nine fours before being caught by Williams off Van Wyk.

Van Wyk completed his 2-30 by bowling Phil Lewis for five as Montgomeryshire wobbled on 65-5.

County debutant Ed Kneale joined Tom Goodman in a 30-run partnership for the sixth wicket with the Alberbury youngster hitting two fours being caight at slip by Martin Burger off South African Sean Steynberg-Wright.

Goodman had pushed his side onto 112 when Steynberg-Wright sent him back to the pavillion for 37.

Montgomeryshire's middle order pairing of Adrian Foulkes and John Rob Birch fell to Williams and Steynberg-Wright in rapid succession as the home side faltered on 116-7.

Montgomeryshire were able to push their final total onto 131 with a John Anthony making 10 in a fine tailend cameo.

Williams ended with 4-35 while Steynberg-Wright (3-23) and Van Wyk (2-30) ensured a difficult defence for Montgomeryshire.

Simon Jones removed opener Mike Barnes for 11 to end a first wicket partnership of 33 but the Llanidloes paceman was the only bowler to provide any threat.

Jones ended with 2-32 with the scalp of George Johanson, caught by Goodman for nine. With Anthony bowling opener Van Wyk soon after, Flintshire were left on 55-3.

That was as good as it got for Montgomeryshire as Burger and David Fox formed an unbreakable fourth wicket partnership.

Burger hit 10 fours in a knock of 47 with Fox anchoring well with two fours and a six in his 22 to complete victory in the 32nd over.
