Hay St Marys' claims of a player shortage fell on deaf ears with the club entering sides either side of the border next season

HAY St Mary’s Football Club have been issued a £400 fine following their resignation from the Spar Mid Wales League last week.

A Spar Mid Wales League executive committee came down firmly on the Forest Road club – which cited a lack of available players behind their decision.

However, the club's decision to field a side across the border in the Herefordshire Premier League while fielding another side in the Watson Associates Mid Wales League South ensured a hefty fine.

Hay made assurances that the club would respect the Welsh structure by fielding its strongest side in the Mid Wales League South and argued the loss of 14 players from last season had meant the club being unable to commit to the Mid Wales League.

The executive commmittee also issued a £200 fine to the now defunct Defaid Du following their resignation from the newly-formed Mid Wales League second division.

The Llandrinio club was forced to resign just weeks after being accepted into the league after players failed to commit and administrative roles were left vacant.

The fine could also confirm the name Defaid Du to the history books with any revived club barred from competitive football in the Welsh structure until the fine is paid in full.

The executive committee ruled that the first division will continue with 15 clubs this season, with one club being relegated, while the second division would comprise of 13 clubs this season with two clubs being promoted.
It is hoped that the full quota of 16 second division clubs is met next season with Penybont United, Knighton Town, Aberdyfi and Machynlleth among the clubs rumoured to be building for promotion.
