FBC Manby Bowdler League
Llanidloes 206 for 4 drew with
Cound 256 all out
LLANIDLOES became only the third side to deny title chasing Cound victory, earning the praise of proud skipper Rob Jones.
The visitors survived an early scare when opener Graham Trow was dropped and proceeded to smash a superb century.
Trow was joined in a crucial first wicket partnership by Craig Heath, which gave Cound an excellent platform for victory.
However Llanidloes dug in and dashed any hopes the visitors had of declaring with a superb bowling and fielding display.
Rob Jones caught Heath for 43 off Simon Jones (1-27), while Trow was trapped lbw for 107 by Adrian Foulkes.
Foulkes proceeded to eat into the middle order to end with 5-45, from just 11 overs, with Greg Lawrence (27) the pick of the remaining order.
Rob Jones (2-52) also chipped in while Rhys Jones took three excellent catches to limit Cound to a challenging 256.
Andrew Evans and Marc Hughes got Llanidloes off to a dream start in reply with the duo combining to post 120.
The run rate was such that Llanidloes had hopes of matching Cound’s vast total.
However when Evans was run out by Heath for 66 and Hughes was caught by Farrell Younger-Waters off Adam Williams for 55, the Llanidloes challenge began to falter.
Rob Davies was caught for 11 off Andy Harrison, before Rob Smith departed for a hard-fought 39 to Williams (2-55).
It was left to the fifth wicket partnership of Simon Jones (8no) and Foulkes to see out the innings and claim 13 points.
