A SEVEN wicket defeat at home to the basement club was not in the script as Condover prevailed at Lymore.
Montgomery looked to establish a challenging total to chase, but instead Condover’s opening bowlers dismantled Monty, with Matty Farr (3-11) dismissing Tim Davies for one and going on to claim the scalps of Rob Kinsey (13) and Rob Bennett for a duck.
Jon Mansell (4-34) saw off the challenge of Aaron Ruff-Cock (6), Lee Davies (8), Gareth Davies (0) and Ed Davies (17), who was one of only two Monty batsmen to post double figures.
With the damage inflicted, Condovers remaining two bowlers, Charlie Haylett (1-17) and Dougie Farr (2-10) saw off the tail and left Monty on a paltry 89 all out from 35 overs.
With Condover’s batting line-up looking suspect in recent weeks, Monty skipper Neil Tuffin (2-15) set an aggressive field early on and was soon rewarded when the captain himself dismissed openers James Upton and Ewan Elliott for 4 and 0 respectively.
Andrew Barker (0-5) was bowling economically, but was unable to make any breakthrough and was replaced by paceman Ed Davies (1-18), who succeeded in claiming the wicket of the dangerous Haylett for 18, to leave Condover on the brink of a collapse.
Luck did not go Monty’s way and with hopeful shots producing runs and not chances, Condover closed in on their target with Adam Harris (19no) and Matty Phillips (29no) seeing them home in the 33rd over.
