A FRIDAY night thriller at the Weirglodd saw Rhayader Town snatch an injury-time winner to stay in title contention.

Jack Hughes fired Newtown into a 20th minute lead, before ex-Rhayader defender Damien Daniels was stretchered off with a knee injury.

Richie Powell scrambled Rhayader level after the break but Newtown regained the lead when Chris Carroll’s corner deceived Rhys Hughes.

Rhayader levelled when Mike Collister headed home a Dylan McPhee corner; before Tom Foulkes clattering into Powell with the resulting penalty dispatched Collister.

Newtown refused to surrender and with eight minutes left Carroll whipped home a second goal direct from a corner.

With the seconds ebbing away Rhayader Town snatched victory when Lance Jones’ shot came back off the bar with Powell on hand to pounce.
