BUILTH Wells manager, Jeremy Pugh, has blasted his players after they lost out 22-18 at Bridgend Athletic.

The Bulls were leading with seven minutes to go, but a late try followed by a penalty consigned the visitors to their 10th defeat of the season.

A clearly frustrated Pugh said: “We never turned up. We win a couple of games and the boys all of a sudden think they’re world beaters. What I’d say is you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink.

“We had a game plan together but unfortunately it went out the window pretty much as soon as the game started - it was a very poor performance.”

Pugh called on his players to take more responsibility for their performances.

He said: “We were back to where we were on October 15, individuals on the field and no one playing for anyone else. You can do as much as you want in training but if they don’t take responsibility for themselves then there’s nothing we can do.

We had a simple game plan but from start to finish there was nil as far as positives to take from the game.”

Two tries from left-winger Ed Jenkins, along with two penalties and a conversion from John Thurston had put the Bulls in a useful position, but it wasn’t enough and the hosts secured their sixth win of the season.
