LLANIDLOES bounced back from last week’s disappointing defeat to Cobra with a forward dominated win over Newtown.

Llani chairman, Huw Jenkins, said he was pleased at the improvement the side had shown, particularly up front.

He said: “It should’ve been and could’ve been a lot more. Both sides are struggling at the moment.

“We’ve got the players but we are lacking a bit of confidence, particularly when we’re attacking.”

The first half provided little in the way of attacking excitement with Llani’s fly-half Ed Pugh getting the only score when he slotted home a penalty.

The second half was a very different affair, with the game opening up and Llani making the most of some improved performances from their forwards, who started to dominate at both the scrum and line-out.

They got the only try of the game through hooker Thomas Savage, who crossed over after good forward play, following a line out.

The visitors spurned a couple of opportunities to extend their lead, with two penalties going begging, but replacement full back Dan Short rounded off the scoring with a fine drop goal, giving Llani a deserved 11-0 win.

Jenkins said: “It was a good all round performance, a vast improvement on last week, particularly from the forwards.”

Jenkins also reserved praise for centre Huw Owen and winger James Davies, who he said had both provided fine performances in a confidence building win.
