Facing up to Ronaldo, Raul and Kaka at the BMO Field

WE HAVE played three games in the space of six days.

First we travelled to Boston, to face New England for an Eastern Conference battle.

We lay ahead of them in the standings but they did have a few games in hand.

Our overall record against them in the MLS has not been great, and we were yet to take a point off them at their place.

We started quite attacking and went ahead when Dwayne de Rosario scored a beauty for us with a rising drive.

Half time came and we were in an excellent position, but unfortunately a few minutes into the second half Chad Barrett got sent off for a second yellow card.

We knew we now faced a hard task and eventually we conceded.

We then saw out the rest of the match to get an excellent point on our travels.

From Boston we then had to travel to Puerto Rico for the second leg of our Concacaf play-off match. We had lost the previous one by a goal to nil at home so had a lot of work to do.

The first half had a few long range efforts and good chances but there was no score.

In the second we dominated possession and created chances, but could not get the goal we wanted.

At the end we had six centre forwards on the pitch as we went for the elusive goal, but it was not to be.

We felt we had thrown away a great chance of getting to the next round.

After that we travelled straight back to Toronto to face the mighty Real Madrid at BMO Field.

Extra stands had been put in, even grass had been laid on top of the turf just to play against them.

We knew it was going to be a special occasion, but we wanted to make sure we put on a good show.

When we saw their team sheet it was Ronaldo, Guti, Kaka, Raul, Robben, Benzema and so on.

If you wanted to test yourselves against the best then you don't get much better than this.

Grass as I said had been laid but you could pull up each segment of it and the ball didn’t roll properly. As it worked out maybe that was not a bad thing.

For the first 20 minutes it was fairly even, but then Raul had a half chance and we were a goal down.

Within three more minutes we were 3-0 down.

Ronaldo scored a beauty and Raul got his second. Three goals in four minutes.
The game ended in a 5-1 defeat.

Premiership starts this weekend and my tip of Chelsea already have a trophy on board after a penalty win over Man United.

A young Wales team also lost to Montenegro 2-1, but more importantly Danny Gabbidon played for the first time in 18 months.
