A POWYS football club has stepped up plans to upgrade its ground facilities.

Hay St Mary's Football Club compete in the MMP Central Wales League South with ambitions to climb the pyramid and step up to the third tier next season.

The club's long term goal is to raise enough funds to construct a new clubhouse at its Forest Road ground which would provide a base for more than 175 junior players and its men's and women's teams.

A club spokesman said: "In order to continue to grow and offer better facilities for our local community, our players, their families and spectators, the club is raising money for a new clubhouse.

OTHER NEWS:

"The clubhouse will provide changing rooms, toilets, a kitchen and a bar with an indoor viewing area and our plan is to make these facilities available for use by the wider community as well as the club.

"We have made great progress to  develop this project including the drawing up of plans, quotes for the work to be completed, applications for funding to a variety of sources and co-ordination with local community groups with an interest in using the clubhouse once constructed."

County Times:

The project will cost around £425k with the Saints already raising £20k while applying for a further £325k.

A crowdfunding appeal has now been launched to help the club raise a further £25k in order to hit the £80k milestone which would access match funding.

The spokesman added: "Our ethos at Hay St Mary’s is that we are part of, we work with and we provide for our local community. We want to co-ordinate with and involve as many elements of our strong community as possible and that is why we would like to work with you.

"As a community we are at our strongest when we talk and work together.

"This is why we are working with local community groups including the Cricket Club, the Youth Club and the Scouts, to see how they may benefit from the facilities that would be provided through this project.

"This is an exciting project but it is just the start of a longer term vision for Hay St Mary’s to grow for the benefit of the town and our community.
