KNIGHTON Town’s Bryn-Y-Castell ground hosts the final of the Aspidistra Radnorshire Cup on Sunday afternoon.

The traditional showpiece will crown the county kings for another season with a bumper gate anticipated for one of the most eagerly anticipated finals in years as Llandrindod Wells take on Radnor Valley.

Llandrindod Wells go into the final as favourites having enjoyed a fine Ardal North East League campaign so far.

The Spamen further underlined their credentials by reaching the semi-finals of the Welsh Trophy only to lose to Trethomas Bluebirds on a never to be forgotten night in Merthyr Tydfil last month.

OTHER NEWS:

Their opponents top the MMP Central Wales League South and have let their ambitions be known by applying for promotion to the third tier while developing facilities at their Bypass ground opened in 2021.

Radnor Valley and Llandrindod Wells could both be representing Powys in the Ardal North East League next season.

County Times:

However this weekend will see the rivals go head to head for the Aspidistra Radnorshire Cup.

Radnor manager Elliot Morris said: “We are excited for the cup final and hoping to go one better than last year after our loss to Hay St Mary’s.

“We probably go into the game as underdogs with Llandrindod being a third tier club but we know them very well from previous years and will be up for the fight.”

The Spamen face an arduous weekend and will play two games in 48 hours after official efforts to switch the cup final date failed.

Instead Llandrindod Wells will host Corwen in the Ardal North East League on Saturday afternoon before lining up for the county cup final less than 24 hours later.
