LLANFAIR Caereinion’s dream start to the season continued with a 2-1 win over Welshpool in the first division of the North Wales Women’s League.
The match was hastily switched to Newtown’s Maldwyn Leisure Centre with Welshpool’s Flash Leisure Centre’s surface waterlogged.
Nia Mansell opened the scoring for Pool from a penalty corner in the early stages only for Llanfair to hit back as Sioned Gittins struck from a penalty corner.
An evenly poised game saw both sides enjoy spells of pressure in the second-half before Delyth Thomas’ shot was stopped on the line and converted the resulting penalty flick.
Llanfair remained disciplined as Pool pressed for an equaliser to see out the game victorious.
Meanwhile Storm Callum devastated much of the hockey programme with games across the country falling foul to heavy wind and rain, including Radnor’s clash at Gowerton in division two of the South Wales League and Montgomery’s Shropshire League clash with Wem.
