TREWERN United staged a first round upset with a 3-1 win at home to derby rivals Waterloo Rovers in the Central Wales Cup.

Shaun Roberts scored twice with Chris Lewis completing the Tigers tally while Tom Ellis replied but it was not enough to prevent the villagers completing an upset.

Trewern manager Nathan Jones said: “I am delighted with the effort the lads put in against a good Waterloo team.

“The lads battled well and we got the result which we deserved.

“We look forward to the next round which will no doubt be just as hard of a test.”

Llangedwyn also upset the odds against higher league opposition with a 4-3 win at home to Montgomery Town.

Paul Buckley, John Lewis, Charlie Cooper-Harding and Rich Lewis netted for the Foxes while Sam Williams, Luke Williams and Scott Williams replied for Monty.

Abermule saw off the challenge of a visiting Penybont United with goals from Huw McGrath and Will Denham just enough in a 2-1 win while Scott Davies replied.

Meanwhile Padarn United and Bishops Castle Town were handed walk overs after scheduled visitors Brecon Northcote and Bont conceded their respective ties.

The rest of the first round schedule fell victim to the inclement weekend conditions.
