LLANDRINDOD Wells handed the mighty Maesteg a fright before succumbing to a 26-15 defeat in division three west central of the Swalec League.
The Budgies survived early pressure to lead with a try from flanker Robert Davies, converted by Ashley Hammond who also kicked a penalty only for Maesteg to hit back with a brace of tries Gareth Goodridge with Rhodri Evans’ conversion opening a two point advantage.
Maesteg pulled away in the second-half with tries from John Brown and David Castle, both converted by Evans.
Llandrindod refused to wilt and a determined showing culminated in a try from No8 Geraint Evans.
The Budges laid siege to the visitors try line for the remainder of the game but could not force the score to secure a bonus point as Maesteg held firm for victory.
