HOLYHEAD Town were unable to cause an FAW Trophy upset as they were beaten 3-1 at home by Llandudno Albion.
The Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two side were undone by their third tier opponents despite a spirited display with recent signing from Conwy Borough Lee Thomas putting them ahead after 31 minutes courtesy of a stunning free-kick past Darren Baker.
Prolific forward Dave Maddock almost doubled their advantage after the break when he forced Baker into a smart stop after a dazzling solo run, but Albion did add to their tally on 71 minutes when forward Lee Ellis converted from the penalty spot.
Thomas capped off a fine afternoon at the office with a second from another dead ball situation in the closing stages, and despite a late consolation from the Harbourmen it was not enough to take the gloss off another efficient display from Darren Jones’ side.
A treble from David Jones saw Llanberis also advance with a 5-2 win at Amlwch Town, with Gruff John hitting a brace for Y Felinheli in their resounding 5-0 success at Llanfairpwll.
Llanrug United ended the impressive cup run of Llandudno Amateurs with a comfortable 7-0 victory on their travels, and in-form Nantlle Vale progressed with a 4-2 home win after extra time over Llanrwst United.
Warren Gibbs’ Glantraeth produced an exceptional effort to come away with a 3-0 home success over Penmaenmawr Phoenix, with Bodedern Athletic overcoming Pentraeth 8-7 on penalties after the game finished 2-2 after 120 minutes.
Another side to advance were Mynydd Llandegai as Craig Wheeler hit three in their 7-4 triumph over Aberffraw, but there was no such luck for Penrhyndeudraeth as they were downed 2-1 by Llandyrnog United.
Goals from Shane Jones, Gethin Evans (2) and Paul Lewis gave Barmouth and Dyfrryn United a 4-1 Division One win over Llandudno Junction, and Blaenau Amateurs moved to the Division Two summit with a 3-0 victory at Kinmel Bay.
