Knighton Town have withdrawn from the MMP-NL Mid Wales League with immediate effect.

The Radnorshire club informed the league of its decision on September 6 with their record expunged from the first division table.

The club will now look to rebuild at recreation level and run one side in the Watson Financial Mid Wales League South.

The club endured a string off heavy defeats this season with newly installed manager Adriano Girolami deploying a young squad following mass departures in the summer.

League secretary Phil Woosnam said: “The league wishes Knighton Town all the best for the remainder of the season and hope they can one day return.”

The club’s resignation ends an eight year association with the Mid Wales League having been led back to senior level football by Adam Worton who departed Bryn-Y-Castell in the summer.

The Robins have endured a turbulent history having soared as high as the second tier from 1992 to 1999 before dropping back into the Mid Wales League.

The club twice dropped out of the Mid Wales League between 2001 and 2008 before returning in 2011.

The club failed to reply to a request for comment.
