Montgomery 129-8 lost to Ellesmere 131-3 by seven wickets
MONTGOMERY’S promotion bid was dealt a blow in a seven wicket defeat at Ellesmere.
Monty faced an uphill battle after Andrew Barker and Tim Davies fell to ducks with Tom Corfield also caught by Max Smith off Joe Austin for six.
Ieaun Griffiths (13) and Aaron Ruff-Cock (7) completed George Duncan’s 3-6 with Sam Williams caught by Fraser Duncan off Austin (2-10) for 11 as Monty’s wobble continued.
Rob Bennett was joined by Harry Wilkinson in offering eighth wicket defiance before the latter was caught by Laurence Ashley off Duncan (1-38) for 22.
Bennett (32no) was joined by Patrick Fletcher (15no) in guiding Monty to 129-8 to defend.
Opener Jon Mitchell carried his bat in reply with an unbeaten 66.
Ed Bennett (1-18), Fletcher (1-26) and Williams (1-24) claimed wickets but could not prevent Mitchell (66no) and Duncan (21no) steering their side to 131-3 in the 31st over.
