MALDWYN Harriers maintained its successful year with two international call ups and two Welsh titles won last week.

Lenny Hughes and Rachel Butler have both been selected to compete for Wales against England in the Celtic Nations competition at the Chester Marathon on October 7.

Meanwhile two members of the club’s thriving youth section have been crowned Welsh champions.

Maddie Griffiths of Welshpool and Oliver Jones of Tregynon represented their club at the Welsh Junior Mountain Running Championships in Llanberis last weekend.

Both won their respective under 15 races to become Welsh Mountain Running Under 15s champions.

Griffiths celebrated a third national gold of the year while Jones claimed his first.

Meanwhile the next event in the club championship is the popular Neil Howells Memorial Race in Montgomery on Friday, August 17.

The scenic and multi terrain 4.5 mile race begins at Montgomery show ground and ends at the Town Hall with the main race open to competitors aged 15 and over starting at 7:15pm with the shorter fun run for children starting at 6.15pm.

The Neil Howells Memorial Race represents the final event in the Maldwyn Harriers annual running championship.
