NEWTOWN slipped to a seven wicket defeat at basement rivals Frankton.

Jacob Northwood (3-32) struck early for the hosts with the Town top order of Aaron Knight (17), Ryan Davies (15) and Tom Foulkes (15) departing cheaply.

Matthew Knight was also bowled by Jack Hutchinson (2-23) before Newtown offered middle order resistance.

Jack Morris (50) was joined by captain Sam Cooke (34) in working the scoreboard before both departed to Jordan Parry(3-34).

Stuart Lammie (2-29) polished off the tail to leave Newtown to defend 210.

Sam Owen was caught by Cooke off Ally Laird (1-34) for 14 while Ian Whitticase was caught by Matthew Knight off Jack Morris (1-19) for 23 as Town tasted early success in reply.

Scott Hale was joined by Tom Wilkie in third wicket defiance before the latter was caught by Cooke off Foulkes (1-18) for 40.

However Frankton were not to be denied with Hale (50no) joined by Dean Pirro (39no) in an unbroken fourth wicket stand to steer their side to the revised target of 199-3 and glory.
