FERGUS Stevens has taken the next step in his blossoming hockey career.

Later this month the teenager from Llanfyllin will represent Wales in the Under 18s European Championships to be staged in Cardiff from July 22-28.

Stevens took up the sport as Year 9 student with support from Welsh under 21s international and Llanfyllin High School teacher Jamie Powell.

The teenager never looked back and began a playing career with spells at Shrewsbury, Oswestry and Wrexham before starting a sports scholarship at Brecon’s Christ College led to joining Cardiff Metropolitan, one of Wales’ elite clubs.

Stevens is no stranger to international competition having been part of the national set-up since he was 14 years old.

Last years Stevens formed part of the Welsh squad which competed in the Under 16s European Championships in Poland while also having test experience against Switzerland, Ireland, France, Scotland and Ulster.

The under 18s championships represent the start of a busy summer for the newly adapted midfielder who will also be competing in his third Futures Cup competition next month.

Stevens hopes to achieve a degree in physics and continue to develop his hockey career and thanked Adidas continued support and sponsorship.
