A magnificent 127 from skipper Sam Williams inspired Builth Wells to a seven wicket win at home to Garnons in division one of the GB Liners Marches League.

Batting first on a parched Garth Road the visitors rode rode their luck as Builth dropped catches as Alan Jones (55) Tyler Garrard (60) and Paul Williams (49) helped their side to 254 to defend.

Henry Edwards (3-46), Dylan McPhee (3-49) and Mike Williams (2-54) led the Builth attack

McPhee and Steve Anderson fell early in reply before Sam Williams and Aled Powell (86no) stroked the ball to all parts in a spectacular 215 run third wicket stand before Ezra Tattersall (10no) guided the hosts to 254-3 in the 36th over.

Williams said: “It was a great effort by the lads and despite some mixed catching we stuck at it.”

Meanwhile Presteigne celebrated an eight wicket win at Bartestree IIIs in division three.

Mark Oglethorpe (3-42), Lee Traylor (3-21) and Alan Stocker (2-10) helped restrict the hosts to 198 with Edward Pritchard (58), Phil Anderson (28) and Richard Fisher (23) top scoring.

In reply William Barthalomew (102) was supported by Oglethorpe (32) in a superb opening stand before Mark Ammonds (44no) guided Presteigne to 199-2 and glory in the 23rd over.

Elsewhere Builth Wells IIs slipped to a five wicket defeat at Goodrich IIs.

The Bulls were reeling after Neil Price (4-13) struck early before Paul Rowe (77no) and Kevin Hall (19) helped their side to 144 to defend

Despite the best efforts of Hall (2-19) in reply the home side eased to a five wicket win courtesy of Adam McClarty (38), Patrick Milinczuk (32), Rufus Davies (23), Jack Waldis (22) and Matt Davies (21).

Builth captain Stuart Cripps said: “Overall we battled well and remain in a great position in the league.”
