NEWTOWN maintained their impressive start to pre-season with a comfortable 5-1 win at home to Denbigh Town on Saturday.

The Robins started with summer signings Callum Roberts, Ben Bailey and Sam Phillips who each looked to underline their credentials.

However it was striker Ethan Jones who stole the show with a hat-trick while Luke Boundford and Joe Kenton also struck to cancel Sam Jones’ consolation.

Meanwhile Caersws opened their summer preparation with a 5-1 win over Montgomery Town.

Phil Jones led the Blues tally with a four goal haul while teenager Charlie Gordon completed the scoring for Mark Griffiths’ side.

Penrhyncoch suffered a 2-0 defeat at South Wales League One side Penybont with Adam Carpenter and Cullen Kinsella netting late on.

A Will Thomas hat-trick was not enough to prevent Welshpool Town slipping to a 5-3 defeat at Wrexham League side Cefn Albion.

Elsewhere Dolgellau and Tywyn Bryncrug played out a 1-1 draw with Aled Jones netting for the Cormorants only for Charlie Owen to head the hosts level.

Meanwhile Hay St Marys thumped Talgarth Town 6-0 with Jack Biggs netting twice and further goals from Matty Tong, Harry Ratcliffe, Tom James and Tom Landon
