NEWTOWN have completed another double signing to boost their squad ahead of the J D Welsh Premier season.

The midfield duo of Jake Cook and Steve Leslie both agreed terms with the Latham Park club after impressing in pre-season.

Their arrival follows the arrival of defender Ben Bailey and striker Sam Phillips and takes the number of new recruits to six with the Mid Wales club having also brought midfielder Damian Allen and defender Callum Roberts to Latham Park.

Cook arrives from Huws Gray Alliance side Guilsfield while Leslie joins from Corby Town having made a century of English League appearances with Shrewsbury Town before spells with non-league sides Wrexham and AFC Telford.

Manager Chris Hughes welcomed the 30 year old to the club, saying: “Having that many football league appearances under his belt shows Steve’s quality. His experience is going to be a big plus for us.”

Meanwhile 22 year old playmaker Cook arrives with the aim of making the step up to the Welsh Premier following a brief spell with Airbus UK Broughton in 2017.

Hughes said: “Jake is a technically really good player who has done well in pre season.

“He has had a few good seasons with Guilsfield and been a standout performer. We wanted to have a look at him pre-season and he had really impressed us.”

Meanwhile Newtown maintained their unbeaten pre-season with a Nick Rushton penalty earning a 1-0 win over a youthful Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday.
