Montgomery 204-5 lost to Shifnal IIIs 207-4 by six wickets

MONTGOMERY’S title challenge suffered a blow in a six wicket defeat at home to Shifnal IIIs.

Andrew Barker laid strong foundations before being caught by Ben Aston off Joshua Cooper-Butters (3-47) for 44 with Monty 111-2.

Tim Davies continued to work the scoreboard with an unbeaten century to guide Monty to 204-5 to defend.

The visitors reply was founded on a 120 run second wicket stand between Dominic Ashley (77) and Matthew Batkin (50) to guide their side to 144-3 when both fell in quick succession to Sam Williams.

Michael Frost anchored himself at the crease and was joined by Dan Aston in a 24 run fourth wicket stand before the latter fell for 19 to complete Williams’ 3-28.

Tom Gough (30no) wasted little time in guiding Shifnal home with an unbroken 39 run fifth wicket stand alongside Frost (13no) and seal victory in the 35th over and bring Monty back to earth following their T20 Cup final joy.
