NEWTOWN Cricket Club host a touring Sri Lankan XI on Tuesday.

The Henshalls Shropshire Premier League side welcome the tourists from the southern hemisphere for a 25 over a side clash.

The match starts at 5.30pm with a full bar and raffle with club officials inviting all supporters and members of the community to the Recreation Ground.

President Peter Davies said: “It promises to be a great game and we look forward to welcoming the touring Sri Lankan side.

“The match has been arranged thanks to one of our former players who is leading the tour and we are grateful and look forward to catching up.

“Hopefully we can look forward to a big crowd and some entertaining cricket with all invited down the Recreation Ground.”

Meanwhile the club is also looking forward to its annual presidents day which will be held on Sunday, July 22 at 1pm.

A team made up of the current playing roster will take on a president’s select team in a T20 match.

The occasion is among the most eagerly anticipated in the club’s social calendar and Davies hoped 2018 would be as successful as past years.

“We will have a bar, barbecue and raffle to entertain supporters alongside the cricket so hopefully we can look forward to another great day,” said Davies.

Newtown travel to Worfield in the Henshalls Shropshire Premier League on Saturday with captain Sam Cooke hoping his side can maintain their climb up the table.

Last week the Mid Wales side outclassed Cound in a nine wicket win and make the trip with confidence.

Meanwhile Danny Foulkes’ second string also look to maintain their promotion bid in reserve league two with Beacon IIs visiting the Recreation Ground with Town currently challenging at the top of the table
