BUILTH Wells crashed to a five wicket defeat at home to Luctonians in division one of the GB Liners Marches League.

Winston Williams (10) and Steve Anderson (38) started brightly but only Aled Powell (12) joined them on double figures as Pete Griffiths (5-11) and Tom Jay (5-28) shared the limelight and dismissed Builth for just 98.

Mike Williams (1-18) and Dylan McPhee (1-25) celebrated the wickets of James Platford (28) and Ducan Platford (4) before Sam Williams (3-34) struck to leave Lucton on 59-5.

However Matt Bengry (30no) and Griffiths (27no) shared an unbroken 40 run sixth wicket stand to guide their side to 99-5 and victory.

Meanwhile Builth Wells boosted reignited their third division promotion bid with a seven wicket win over Canon Frome.

Matt Richards (34) led the Frome attack with Gareth Sterry (2-46) restricting the visitors to 74-5 before Dave Kings (61) and Marcus Richards (28) frustrated Richard Davies (2-26) and Eurig Towns (2-22) by steering their side to 205.

Ian Morgan (66) and Paul Rowe (37) laid the foundations with a 102 opening wicket stand before Jonny Curzon (41no) and Terry Dickson (13no) guided Builth to 208-3 and glory.
