Montgomery 148-6 beat Hodnet 147 all out by four wickets

MONTGOMERY had no cup final hangover in a four wicket win over Hodnet.

The visitors arrived at Lymore determined to avenge their midweek cup final defeat with Richard Barge and Mo Abdullah laying the foundations.

Captain Sam Williams (1-20) removed Abdullah for a 26 before Mohammed Fiaz was caught by Harry Wilkinson off Andrew Barker for five.

Charlie Kinsey (4-43) celebrated the stumping of Barge by Ron Bennett for a top scoring 34 to spark Hodnet’s middle order collapse to 107-6.

Barker (2-33) and Wilkinson (2-19) polished off the tail end before Matt Pooler was run out by Williams for 21 to leave Hodnet all out for 147.

Despite the cheap loss of Barker, bowled by Fiaz (1-23) for 12 the Monty reply was based on Tom Corfield and Tim Davies’ second wicket stand.

Corfield was caught by Pooler off Abdullah (1-34) for 31 with Davies stumped by Mike Jenkins off Matt Watkins for 30.

Watkins (3-46) made inroads into the Monty middle order but struggled to dislodge Ieuan Griffiths and captain Williams who pushed their side to the verge of glory.

Williams departed, caught by Alex Smith off Chris Watkins (1-17) for 21, to leave Griffiths (41no) and Rob Bennett (0no) to form an unbroken seventh wicket stand to guide their side to 148-6 and victory.
