HEIDI Davies was part of the British women’s squad to claim bronze at last weekend’s European Mountain Running Championships in Macedonia.

The Llandrindod Wells based Brecon Athletics star joined Eryri Harrier Bronwen Jenkinson in taking on the mountains near the Macedonian capital of Skopje on Sunday.

Jenkinson ended 12th in 59:19 with Davies completing the 11km course in 1:04:35 to claim 35th place and seal third place overall for Wales behind champions France and the Czech Republic who ended runners-up.

The result completed Davies’ return from a lengthy injury lay off and a successful senior debut for the Great Britain team for the Llandrindod Wells star.

Meanwhile fellow Llandrindod Wells athlete Ffion Price was in action at last weekend’s British Championships in Birmingham.

Price, a member of the Cardiff Athletics Club, completed her heat in 4.17.03 to end fifth and qualify for the final of the women’s 1,500m as one of the fastest finishers.

Despite ending the final in eighth spot the Mid Wales star was delighted with her weekend performance and season best time.

Price said: “ I am absolutely over the moon with the weekend.

“I have been trying to build my confidence this season.

“I did not even think I’d make it to the final this year but to make it to the final and come eighth was crazy.”

Price now turns her attention and drive to the Welsh Senior Championships to be held in Cardiff on the weekend of July 13-14.
