BUILTH Wells turned the GB Liners Marches League One form book on its head with a 31 victory over old rivals Luctonians.

A maiden half century from Steve Anderson in a 93 run first wicket stand alongside Winston Williams (43) was followed by a quickfire 90 from Dylan McPhee before Sam Williams (29) and Aled Powell (36) guided Builth to 250-3.

Pete Griffiths (3-35), Jake Davies (2-33) and Matt Bengry (2-77) struck to complete Builth’s fall for 292.

McPhee made light work of opener Duncan Platford before Luctonians built their innings with a 66 run second wicket stand between James Platford and Will Maund.

James Platford was caught by Sam Williams off McPhee for 43 before Williams (2-65) and Rob Wall (2-52) tore through the middle order.

Mike Williams (1-50) bowled Steve Powell (32) before McPhee completed his 3-46 with the key wicket of Maund for 106.

Henry Edwards (2-44) dislodged tail ender Jake Davies for 28 to complete Luctonian’s dismissal for 261 and Builth’s 31 run victory.

Meanwhile Builth IIs’ third division promotion bid received a dent in six wicket defeat at Bartestree IIIs.

Paul Rowe (92), Terry Dickson (29) and Eurig Towns (13) helped Builth to 190 to defend with Connor Berry (4-29) and Sid Hughes (3-46) starring for the hosts.

Chris Frith carried his bat with 101no in reply with supporting knocks from Ed Pritchard (19), David Webb (25) and Mike Berry (19no) easing Bartestree to 191-4 and victory in the 37th over.

Veteran Kevin Hall (2-24) plugged away with Ben Cripps (1-44) and Arthur Davies (1-56) but could not dislodge Frith.

Disappointed Builth skipper Stuart Cripps said: “Its probably the worst we have played all season and dropped catches cost us but we battled to the end.”

Meanwhile Presteigne were awarded the points after Ross IIs conceded.
