LLANFYLLIN hosts the annual Monty Trax Mountain Bike Challenge on Saturday, July 14.

The event starts at 10am at the town high school and includes both 30 mile and 15 mile routes through the countryside.

All proceeds from the event will go toward raising funds to develop cycling, horse riding and walking routes in the area.

Meanwhile Builth Wells hosted the fourth round of the Welsh MTB XC series which saw members of Newtown-based Hafren Cycling Club and the Builth based Bulls CC toast success.

Hafren’s Freddie Roberts won the under 6s with cousin Ben Turner claiming third just behind Bulls starlet Ben Jenkins.

Hafren’s Theo Tomkinson ended 12th in the under 8s with Elliott Turner 10th in the under 10s boys while Briony Roberts finished fifth in the under 12s girls and Sam Stoker 10th in the under 14s boys.

Elsewhere 106 riders from across Mid Wales descended on Llanidloes for the second round of the Ystwyth Junior Schools Cycle Series.

The event started on the Kennal Fields with permission of Morris Marshall and Poole Estate Agents before proceeding through a varied course of grass, dirt tracks, riverstone and steps on the adjoining land permitted by Llanidloes Town Council.

The event catered for off road and accommodated riders from pre-school on balance bikes through to adults and even Welsh MTB champions and regular national podium finishers.

The series returns to Aberystwyth for its final two rounds on July 13 and 20.
