MORE than 30 up and coming golfers from across the county took part in the annual Powys Schools Golf Association (PSGA) competition at Builth Wells Golf Club.

Llanfair Caereinion High School’s Tomi Bowen (4) won the gross event with 74 while the nett competitions saw Llanidloes’ Aled Lewis (18) win the 13-24 handicap event with 57 while Builth Wells’ Aaron Evans (7) won the 0-12 event with 69.

Meanwhile Reuban Edwards (28) fended off the fellow Builth Wells golfer Ceri Jones to win the 18 hole stableford by a point with 38 points while Dafydd Jones (28) of Llanidloes ended third with 35.

Gwernyfed’s Owen Price-Davies (42) won the nine hole stableford with 19 points while Llanelwedd’s Chloe Edwards (54) won the girls nine hole event and Cefnyllys’ Reuban Baker (40) won the boys event with 26 points.

The over all best nett/gross team trophy was awarded to Builth High School’s Aaron Evans, Ciaran Price and Grace Edwards.

A selection process will take place for the Welsh Schools Golf Championships to be held at Llanwern Golf Club later this month.

Organiser Katie Hamer said: “Many thanks to Builth Wells Golf Club for hosting the event once again this year.

“It was once again a high quality event and fantastic showcase for our young and emerging golfing talent”

St Giles

GERRARD Wilkinson won the St Giles seniors David Griffith Trophy with a net 68 to see off the challenge of Brian Arthur with 69 and Gareth Owen with 72.

Meanwhile the club has raised and donated £1,088 to Marie Curie, the chosen charity of past captain Jason Jones.

Jones said: “The work the Marie Curie nurses do is exceptional and I was happy to choose Marie Curie as my charity for the year.

Helen Edwards, secretary of the Newtown area fundraising group, added “We are grateful for such a large donation which will go a long way to support the work of Marie Curie nurses in the local community”

Current Captain, Gary Rimmer hosts a family quiz and disco night at the club on Friday, July 13 with all proceeds going toward the Stroke Association.

Llanymynech

JULIA LIne beat Bev Cadwallader on the countback to win the first division June Medal with 72 points.

Paula Worden completed the podium in third with 77 points.

Meanwhile Katie Andrew won the Richie Salver Cup and second division medal with 78 points with Gwenan Davies second with 71 and Annie Evans third with 79.

Merryl Andrew won the third division event with 83 points, just a point clear of Pam Larby with 84 points while Brenda Rowlands ended with 88.
