STEVE Jarrett saved the day as Alberbury IIs celebrated a hard fought 29 run victory at home to Montgomery IIs in division one of the Henshalls Shropshire Reserve League.

The home side struggled to just 116 to defend with James Hearle (24) and Sahim Zaza (23) leading the innings.

Rob Yewdall (3-8) and David Jones (3-32) led the Monty attack with support from Alex Bromley (2-21) and Jonathan Williams (2-22) further restricting Alberbury.

Monty suffered a top order collapse in reply with Owain Roberts (2-8) and Paul Wilkes (1-11) tasting early success.

Veteran Williams (12) was joined by youngster Lennon Bryan in stitching together the Monty innings.

However Ben Davies (2-18), Preston Fletcher (1-25) and Rob Owen (1-10) maintained pressure before Bryan was caught by Owen off Jarrett for a top scoring 42.

Jarrett (3-11) completed his haul by removing tail end resistance and complete Monty’s demise for just 87 in the 33rd over.

Meanwhile Welshpool IIs toasted a superb 86 run at Cae Glas IIs in division three.

Nick Roberts led the Pool top order before being run out by Simon Dean for a top scoring 47.

Dean (3-20) proved the pick of the home attack and also included Jordan Harding (30) in his haul while Andy Hughes (2-27) and Shaun Southern (2-30) restricted Pool to 162-9 to defend.

Nathan Baines (3-12) trapped Tim Smith LBW for a top scoring 29 to spark a Cae Glas collapse in reply.

The veteran duo Allan Williams (2-7) and Rupert Redway (2-7) were joined by youngster Jake Evans (1-20) in completing the home side’s skittling for 76 in the 28th over.
