JACK Rimmer’s penalty was enough for Aberystwyth Town to overcome TNS and be crowned Welsh Premier Under 19s champions in Newtown on Monday.

Latham Park hosted the finals of the Football Association of Wales (FAW) academy leagues.

Bari Morgan’s young Seasiders underlined their credentials with a professional display to complete a 1-0 win and be crowned Welsh under 19s champions.

Earlier in the day Cambrian Clydach beat Connahs Quay Nomads 3-1 to be crowned under 16s champions while the Nomads beat Afan Lido in the under 14s final.

Nomads also overcame Penybont in the final of the under 12s academy.

The event underlined Latham Park’s growing reputation as a national sports venue with 3G facilities allowing for a high standard of football throughout.

Newtown’s central location also ensured supporters from the length and breadth of the country descended on the town over Bank Holiday weekend and provided a welcome boost for both local tourism and town centre businesses.
