WELSHPOOL Town booked their place in the final of the Spar Mid Wales League Cup with a 2-1 midweek win over Aberaeron.

Will Thomas gave Pool the interval lead at Llanidloes Town’s Victoria Avenue.

However Aberaeron were back on terms on the hour with Ryan Evans putting through his own net.

With the match braced for extra-time the Lilywhites snatched the winner when a long ball from Evans released Adam Davies to slot home.

Victory books a final date against either Llanfair United or Bow Street with a date and venue to be confirmed.

Meanwhile Welshpool sealed runners-up spot in Spar Mid Wales League One after their rivals for second place faltered over Bank Holiday weekend.

Club spokesman Dean Gill said: "We're very proud of what the management team of Chris Roberts and Neil Pryce have achieved in such a short space of time.

"They have brought a belief and togetherness back to the club and its filtered down through the entire set-up.

"We've had a few very difficult years but with a lot of hard work going on behind the scenes and a good team spirit and it shows what can be done.

"With a good connection building up within the town and a very good batch of juniors continuing to come through year on year the future of the club looks a lot healthier."
