A SCHOOL in Newtown says it was a “fantastic honour” to host the Football Association of Wales’ first school coaching session.
Penygloddfa School’s budding footballers learnt how to dribble a ball and shoot like their heroes Gareth Bale and Jess Fishlock, as well as lift the JD Welsh Cup.
The day was organised by the FAW to coincide with the arrival of the Cup Final at Latham Park in Newtown on Sunday.
Headteacher Jim Macdonald said: “It’s a fantastic honour that they’ve come to visit us. It’s very exciting for the children with the Cup Final at the weekend as well. It’s a great opportunity to see the trophy and the fact that the FAW want to spend time with the children. There’s been massive excitement at the school.”
Lisa Austin, FAW Welsh Premier Women’s League Development Officer, said: “This is the first time the FAW has done this. The whole idea is that we’re showing children that it’s really fun to get active. It’s also a great opportunity for us to get to know Newtown.”
