Hughes’ double and strikes from Jamie Evans and Taylor Wozencraft cancelled a Dave Thomas brace and Charlie Boucher effort in reply.
Newcastle overcame Hay St Marys Reserves with Carl Price, Jimmy Thomas and an own goal settling a 3-0 win.
Elsewhere Curtis Williams’ strike ensured Brecon Northcote Reserves a point in a 1-1 draw at St Harmon who led through Rhys Bennett.
Meanwhile a Duane Anning double helped Presteigne Reserves clinch a place in the semi-finals of the Pip Samuel Electrical Mid Wales League South Cup with a 2-0 win at Llandrindod Wells Reserves.
