THE Llanidloes area primary school cross country was held at the town rugby facilities last earlier this month.

More than 500 pupils took part from across the area with the event organised by Powys County Council’s sport development unit with support from Llanidloes High School sports ambassadors.

Spokesperson Katie Hamer-Grew, community sports development officer for Llanidloes, said: “It was a great afternoon with so many parents and grandparents coming to support.

“It was great to see so many children participating in a fun run.”

The Year 6 girls event was dominated by Llanidloes Primary School with Zara Collins leading the field home and followed by schoolmates Sofia Brandon-Higgs and Mia Morgan.

Llanidloes’ Callum Francis-Jones won the Year 6 boys race with Griffin Jolly of Trefeglwys based Ysgol Dyffryn Trannon and Caersws’ Sam Lewis completing the podium.

The results ensured Llanidloes won both team events at Year 6 level.

Meanwhile Llanidloes’ Molly Edwards topped the Year 5 girls field while Dyffryn Trannon’s Rowan Bavistock won the boys race with Llanidloes’ Rees Jones second and Trannon’s Ben Gethin ending third to ensure the village school Year 5 boys honours.

Maddie Hughes led a Llanidloes clean sweep in the Year 4 girls race with Olivia Morgan and Mea Osbourne also on the podium.

Aaron Peck of Llanidloes own the Year 4 boys race with Trannon’s Osian Thomas Young and Oscar Lampe leading the pursuit.

Trannon’s Sali Owen topped the Year 3 girls podium with Llanidloes’ Eva Jones and Phoebe Short leading the challenge while Xander Brandon-Higgs won the boys race from Llanidloes schoolmate James Rees and Callum McDowell of Trannon.

Trannon’s Carys Williams beat schoolmate Freya Lamp to Year 2 girls honours from Llanidloes’ Scarlett Thomas in third while Llewellyn Turner won the Year 2 boys race after seeing off the challenge of Trannon schoolmate Noah Oldfield and Llanidloes’ Ben Evans.

Llanidloes’ Ella Williams and Connor Jones both won their races in Year 1 while Trannon’s Olivia Jones won the girls reception race from Llanidloes’ Elsie Jones and Monique Brandon-Higgs.

Meanwhile Joshua Whitehead won the boys reception race after seeing off Llanidloes schoolmates Jasper Cordingly and Kyle Bocking.
