BUILTH Wells youth team will play the biggest fixture in their fledgling careers when Pontypridd visit the Groe on Saturday.

The Blues Youth Cup quarter-final provides another test for Richard Lawrence’s young charges with the match representing another step toward the final.

Lawrence said: “Builth are a team of home grown local talent.

“The lads thrive on team spirit and have already got some great wins under their belt this season, especially as they are such a young side.”

The young Bulls go into the weekend with home advantage but as massive underdogs.

Lawrence insisted the youngsters would not be overawed having completed numerous shocks already this season.

“Pontypridd are the top team in division A in the Blues Youth League but we will not be overawed by the challenge awaiting us.

“Builth have been labelled the underdogs many times this season and have risen on each occasion to defeat the opposition.”

Lawrence called upon supporters and townspeople to descend on the Groe on Saturday and cheer on the club’s young stars to glory.

“It’s a big game for the players and the club so hopefully we can get as big a crowd as possible down the Groe for what promises to be a great game of rugby,” said Lawrence.

Rugby in the region has been boosted by the success of the Bulls youth team as well as the Mid Districts under 19s squad.

The town high school has also enjoyed a great year with participation at junior level on the rise.
