POWYS representation at this summer’s Commonwealth Games was further enhanced this week.

Rhayader raised athlete Tom Marshall became the latest addition to the Wales squad bound for Australia’s Gold Coast.

Marshall joins Andy Davies and a fleet of Powys bowlers, including Berriew’s Caroline Taylor, Hazel Wilson and Kathy Pearce along with Llandrindod Wells’ Jess Sims, Paula Wilson of Builth Wells and Emma Woodcock of Presteigne on the plane for Australia.

The 28 year old, now based in Ceredigion, will represent Wales in the 1,500m and joins fellow Powys runner Andy Davies in flying the flag in long distance events.

Marshall started running in 2006 and has spent the past decade competing locally, nationally and travelling the world.

Marshall won two medals at the British Championships and earned a scholarship at the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma where he gained an MBA.

Since first being recognised by Wales the Mid Wales athlete has collected more than 50 national team vests, representing Wales in road, cross country, track and mountain events.

Last year Marshall lowered his personal best o 3:37.45 at the Muller Anniversary Games at London’s Olympic Park.
