BUILTH Wells paid the price for a poor batting display in a six wicket defeat at home to Luctonians in division one of the GB Liners Marches League.

A 43 run second wicket partnership between Winston Williams (25) and Sam Williams (12) ended as both departed in quick succession.

Imalka Kankanmalage (4-35) maintained the pressure as Builth were reduced to 92-5 before Richard Galton revived the middle order alongside Steve Fuller in a 33 run sixth wicket stand.

Upon Fuller’s run out for 17, Galton was joined by Paul Rowe in a 30 run seventh wicket stand before being caught by Duane Evans off Liam Webdale (1-39) for a top scoring 32.

Will Maund (3-2) included Rowe (15) in his tail end haul as Builth were left to defend 167.

Maund carried his bat in reply and helped lay the foundations of Luctonians reply with a 44 run opening wicket stand alongside Duncan Platford.

Dylan McPhee (1-39) ended the partnership with Platford caught by Sam Williams for 12 before were roles reversed as James Platford was dismissed for 19.

Rob Wall (2-40) reduced the visitors to 96-4 before Ian Probert (28no) joined Maund (66no) in an unbroken fifth wicket stand to steer Luctonians to 169-4 and victory.

Meanwhile Builth Wells IIs celebrated a 68 run victory at Canon Frome IIs in division three.

A fine top order contribution was led by Jon Corzon (56) with support from Sam Buckler (47) and Tom Childs (29) with a middle order knock of 29 guiding Builth to 211 to defend.

Luke Griffiths (3-44) and Tom Clewer (3-25) dominated the attack for Canon Frome.

Despite the best efforts of Simon Cottrell (35), Griffiths (34) and Marcus Richards (23) the Frome reply was undermined as Builth celebrated regular wickets.

Ben Cripps (4-49) took the limelight with support from Steve Anderson (3-23) and Gareth Sterry (3-31) ensuring Canon Frome all out for 143.
