JACK Morris played a key role as Newtown returned to form with a six wicket win at home to Frankton in the Henshalls Shropshire Premier League.

Morris (3-49) led the wicket haul to help restrict Frankton to 174 to chase before playing a supporting role to Sam Cooke in guiding Newtown to victory with an unbroken fifth wicket stand.

Dave Anthony (1-36) and Ally Laird struck early to dislodge the openers before Scott Hale was joined by Tom Wilkie in a 26 run third wicket stand.

Wilkie was run out by Morris for six who celebrated the wicket of Alex Owen, caught by Ryan Davies for eight, before Hale fell to John Anthony for 31, leaving Frankton 54-5.

Jordan Parry looked to revive the middle order but Morris completed his 3-49 as Mark Lammie and Abdullah Asif departed cheaply, both caught by Cooke.

Parry was joined by Richard Parry-Jones in a 64 run eighth wicket stand which frustrated the hosts attack until the top scoring Parry was finally bowled for a top scoring 46 by Hamish Harding (1-13).

Laird completed his 2-41 with Parry Jones caught by Harding for 35 before John Anthony (2-27) completed Frankton's dismissal for 174 with the wicket of Stuart Lammie (13).

Newtown lost opener Dai Brown cheaply in reply, snared LBW for six by Jack Huthinson (1-28).

However a 52 run second wicket stand between Tom Goodman and Hamish Harding established the foundations of the hosts reply.

Goodman was caught by Asif off Parry-Jones (1-19) for 29 while replacement Ryan Davies was trapped LBW for duck by Stuart Lammie (1-28).

Harding was joined by Cooke in a 40 run fourth wicket stand before being caught by Asif off Jacob Northwood (1-30) for 33.

Newtown were not to be denied as Cooke (53no) was joined by Morris (29no) in an unbroken 73 run fifth wicket stand to secure victory in the 42nd over.
