WALES returned from the Ladies’ International Series in Bangor, Northern Ireland having secured second place to England.

Wales, including Berriew’s Kathy Pearce, Caroline Taylor, Isabel Jones and Emma Gittins, along with Llandrindod Wells duo Wendy Price and Jess Williams, enjoyed a bright start with a 139-96 shot victory over Jersey.

Wales followed this up with a 114-110 shot verdict over hosts Ireland before stunning the favourites Scotland 139-94, to raise hopes of an upset.

However Wales lost 120-102 in the deciding match against England, who celebrated series glory.

England also dominated the silverware at the Women’s British Isles Championships, which was held ahead of the international series.

Berriew’s Caroline Taylor lost the singles final 21-4 to England’s Ellen Faulkner, while Wales also lost to the old enemy in the final of the triples and fours.

Llandrindod Wells’ Betty Morgan and Wendy Price lost 26-15 in the first round of the pairs.
