MEIFOD Football Club will consolidate in the Montgomeryshire League following resignation from Spar Mid Wales League Two.

The Kings Head club had finished bottom of Spar Mid Wales League Two for the past two seasons and also increasingly struggled for commitment from players.

Spokesman Paul Evans said: “It is no secret that the club has struggled in recent years and we hope to consolidate in the Montgomeryshire League next season.

“It is disappointing but the club struggled to get the commitment of players for the longer trips last season and the decision was taken to rebuild in the feeder league.”

However Evans insisted Meifod, originally formed in 1958 as Meifod Rovers, will return.

“We are certainly not ruling out a return to the Mid Wales League in future,” said Evans. “Every club wants to play at the highest standard possible and we are no different.

“We just felt that, with a young squad, we would benefit from less travel and more local fixtures until we are in a position to re-apply for Mid Wales League membership in the future.”

The club are also on the lookout for a new manager after Paul Lewis, who succeeded Geoff Whittall last season, stepped down at the club’s annual meeting.
Applicants are asked to contact Paul Evans on: 01938 500556.
