SPAR Mid Wales League Two will run with just 13 clubs next season, after Meifod dropped a bombshell by resigning at the annual meeting in Llanidloes on Tuesday night.

Meifod ended bottom of the table and will be relegated to the Montgomeryshire League and join Tregaron Turfs in withdrawing from the league after two seasons.

Hay St Marys, runners-up in last season's Mid Wales League (South), were accepted to bring the league membership to 13 clubs for the 2012/13 season.

Mid Wales League secretary Phil Woosnam said: "Feeder league rules state that the higher league must be at a full complement of 16 whenever possible, it is not a case of evening up the leagues, so for next season at least the second division will run with 13 clubs.”
