GARETH Jones of Llandrindod Wells Golf Club captured his eighth Brecon and Radnor Men’s Golf Championship at Llandrindod Wells on Sunday.
Jones prevailed after a tense second round tussle with main rival Tim Iveson of Builth Wells.
The pair were tied on the 18th tee, but it was Jones that secured victory with a two putt birdie for a 70, after a stunning three wood tee shot.
Iveson also found the green off the tee, but a costly three putt from distance put paid to a brave effort after a superb 68 gross.
Jones had led the way after a morning 67, two shots ahead of Brecon’s Mike Maddock and Llandrindod clubmate Ben Davies who fell away by the afternoon session, with Iveson moving up the field.
The nett cup was won for the second year by Builth Wells golfer Ben Edwards with a nett 60, from clubmate Guy Walker.
The Llandrindod Wells quartet Gareth Jones, Mike Davies, Ben Davies and Kevin Percy took the gross team prize, with Builth’s Tim Iveson, Guy Walker, Roy Samuel and Tom Davies winning the nett team cup.
