PRESTEIGNE St Andrews Football Club have confirmed the appointment of Adriano Girolami as first team manager for the coming season.
It will be Girolami’s second spell in charge at Llanandras Park and supporters will be hoping his return will mark an upturn in the club’s fortunes in the coming seasons.
Girolami guided the club to their only Spar Mid Wales League title in 2007 season, but left at the end of the following campaign.
Presteigne’s chairman Alan Randell said the club’s officials were looking forward to working with Girolami again.
“Adriano was realistic enough in his interview to tell us there is no ‘quick fix’ to the club’s current situation, but he feels that there will be better times ahead,” said Randell.
“Given his success in being appointed, it worked out well that he had a period with us as a player last season, as that gave him a chance to take a look at the players we have here.
“He knows we will have to strengthen in key areas, but is confident he can attract the players we need to ensure we are far more competitive in the coming season.”
Since leaving Llanandras Park, Girolami has enjoyed spells with Spar Mid Wales League One sides Newbridge and Rhayader Town and has benefited from the experience.
“I am delighted to have the chance to return to Presteigne and am looking forward to the challenge ahead,” he said.
“It is not going to be easy as we are starting from a pretty low level, but I am confident that - given time - we can turn things around.
“I have already been in touch with as many of last season’s players as possible, while I am looking to bring in a few new faces to freshen things up a bit.”
